Summer dinoramas

 

Tässä muutamia dioraamoja, joita tehtailin kesällä ottaessani valokuvia Dinosaurus dioraama -kisaa varten. Alun perin suunnittelin käyttäväni muita kuin Papon dinosauruksia sillä arvelin niiden olevan muutenkin hyvin edustettuina kisassa. Loppujen lopuksi "paposauruksia" päätyi kuitenkin aika moneen omaankin kuvaani. Piileeköhän suosio sitten melko edullisessa hinnassa ja yksityiskohtien runsaudessa? Vaikeinta oli löytää sellainen kuvakulma, josta muovidinosaurukset näyttäisivät mahdollisimman luonnollisen ja oikean kokoisilta. Rantamudissa ja sammalturpeilla tuli siis möyrittyä oikein olan takaa mutta eipä tuo kummemmin haitannut sillä kuvien ottaminen oli mukavaa. Ensi kerralla otan kyllä kumisappaat mukaan... Here we have some dioramas I took for the Dinosaur Diorama Contest. The initial plan was to use some other models than those of Papo since I thought they would be well represented in the competition without me adding any to the cohort. In the end, however, I ended up using quite a few "paposaurs" myself. Maybe their popularity is due to the fairly competitive price and the abundant use of detail? The most challenging thing was to get the plastic dinos look as natural as possible and to find a good angle which would not give away the real size of the models. In order to do this I got my fair share of creeping and crawling but it didn't really matter because making dioramas is quite fun. But next time I'll wear my wellingtons for sure... Tässä otoksessa on itse asiassa sama dioraama, jolla osallistuin tämänvuotiseen dioraamakisaan. Kuva on tarkentunut vähän hassusti spinosaurusten sijaan takana oleviin sauropodeihin eikä kuvakulmakaan ole paras mahdollinen. Siinä varmasti päällimmäiset syyt miksei tämä lähtenyt kilpailuun.

This diorama is actually same as the one which I sent to the diorama contest this year. Instead of the spinosaurs the picture is focused on the background and the two sauropods which was not my intention. On top of that the photo is crooked. Those are probably the main reasons why this one did not make it to the competition.

 Tässä myös ihan kiva kuva mutta sotkuinen rantaviiva jäi harmittamaan. Uskottavuutta syö myös ehkä Styracosauruksen ja Triceratopsin yhteiselo. ;)

This one's also a fairly nice photo although the messy shoreline somewhat bothers me. Putting Styracosaurus and Triceratops together doesn't add up to the credibility of the photo either. ;)



 

Stegosauruskaverukset puunoksalla - miten ihmeessä?

Nämä kaksi kuvaa kävivät monta kertaa mielessäni valitessani sopivaa dioraamaa kilpailuun. Ongelmaksi muodostui ehkä se, että dinosaurusten väliset mittasuhteet eivät ole aivan kohdillaan: Triceratops-pariin verrattuna rexit näyttävät luvattoman pieniltä! Mutta toisaalta ne saattavat hyvin olla nuorukaisia. Erityisesti pidän kuitenkin siitä, miten tyrannosaurusten väritys sulautuu ympäröivään kasvillisuuteen.

These two photos were rather strong candidates when I was picking my entry to the diorama contest. The problem with these is that the proportions are not quite right in my opinion: Compared to the pair of triceratops the rexes look tiny! But then again, maybe they are juveniles. However, I liked especially the way in which the t-rex colouring blends with the surrounding vegetation.
